Holiday Greetings from Aloha Realty

IT’S COLD OUTSIDE! Lake Maxinkuckee has had the steam rolling off it! There are some signs of ice near the shore with these past few days of below freezing weather! The coots are paddling around and there is an occasional duck blind on the lake with decoys surrounding it trying to entice the real thing to come close enough for a shot.

We had a beautiful fall here in Culver. I must say that our spring, summer and fall have been just almost perfect. I hated to see our pier taken out and to take that last sailboat ride, but the leaves were just gorgeous and it was perfect for bike riding and walking. We are so spoiled!

Now here it is the end of another year! Here’s hoping we have a super nice winter and some good ice for skating. I hope you all enjoy the change of seasons as much as I do and that you relish in the wonder of it all.

I am warmly wishing you a holiday season filled with pleasure and a new year of lasting happiness!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ALOHA REALTY, INC. in CULVER!

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Well, 2010 has started out with lots of snow in Culver! The lake has frozen, but probably not thick enough for cars to drive on yet! When I was a kid, the cars would dash around on the lake. Can you believe it? I would be terrified to be out there in a car. When I was in school we would hope the lake would freeze over Christmas break so we could start our skating spot. Then, as soon as we got off the school bus we would hurry out to the lake to clear our “spot” and enlarge it each time we shoveled it. If we were lucky, the lake would freeze all at once and be nice and clear and we could skate all over without the snow. It would be fun to watch the fish swim below the ice. There were always lots of ice fishermen and ice boaters. We made our own makeshift iceboat and had a ball sailing it around.

Before the lake froze there were 5 beautiful white swans on the lake. I was driving from town to our place on the South Shore and saw them at the outlet bay. Someone else saw them, too, and was taking pictures. Pretty awesome!

Here’s hoping you have a wonderful and prosperous 2010! Need real estate help? Please give me a call!

Friends of Culver

You know, a kind word can just make another person’s day! I always like to tell someone if I think they look nice, or they have done a good job on a project, or to pass along a compliment I have heard from someone else. It is so nice when I receive nice notes from all of you and I thought it would be nice to share some of them with you! They always cheer me up and I thank you all for sending them!

Aloha, Sherrill

Small Bar

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

If you live in the Chicago area or are visiting Chicago I would like to invite you to visit Small Bar.

My 2 sons (Troy a Culver Military Academy class of 1991 and Ty a Culver Military Academy class of 1993) own Small Bar in the city. It has become a gathering place for Culver Academy grads.

There are 2 Small Bars. Small Bar in Logan Square is located at 2956 N Albany (773-509-9888). It is a nifty neighborhood bar with everything original circa 1910. It has a terrific beer garden and is noted for its mass array of serious brews and bar food.

Small Bar on Division is located at 2049 W. Division (773-772-2727). The second location of the note-worthy Logan Square Small Bar, boasts THE BEST bar food in town (fried cheese curds, Katos Wasabi Calamari, burgers, clubs and the like), as well as a staggering beer list that features brews ranging from PBR to top shelf microbrews. The classic Chicago bar is comfortably timeless, and guests can bank on reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. Occasional live music from up and coming Chicago bands will add to the entertainment as well as exclusive access to international soccer games, pool and an indie hit jukebox.
