Spring is here
Only a couple more days left in March and today is a rainy one! Will it “go out like a lamb?” The ice went off Lake Maxinkuckee the weekend of the 15th and the next day the “lake workers” were already busy putting boat lifts in the lake! They are lined up on the West Shore and are making their way around the lake. I guess with the hundreds of lifts to put in the lake they can’t waste any time! Remember when we used to tie up our boats to the pier and would run out and put the boat covers on when we saw a storm coming if we weren’t lucky enough to have the neat old boat house to put our speedboat in? I remember when “dipping out” the fishing boat and sponging every drop of water out between the slats was an important job for me as a kid! The major storms in the 1970′s created a whole new market for the then up and coming boat lift companies. After piers being ripped out and boats damaged by the wind and waves by some freak storms, it seemed suddenly that everyone had a new lift at their pier. And, it has certainly helped with “peace of mind” when a huge storm happens in the middle of the night!
The other big change on the lake are the number of homes and condos for sale. There are over 30 lake properties for sale…unheard of and so sad! It was always rather unusual to even see a “for sale” sign on a home on the lake and now they seem to be everywhere! Hopefully, times will change soon and people will be able to keep their beloved cottages and legacies.
I am looking forward to a gorgeous Spring and perfect Summer! See you at the lake….can’t wait to get back on my little sailboat!
Aloha!
